Good morning,
Our
Girls Flag Footballteam is the New York State Class A Champions! They played two intense games against tough competitors this weekend in Cortland. On Saturday, they defeated the Section 3 champions, Fayetteville-Manlius 14-7. They completed their undefeated season, winning the title against Half Hollow Hills by a score of 20-6. Congratulations to all of the girls and their coaches, Tom Newkirk and Mindy Genovese, on an incredible 22-0 championship season!
Boys Tennis player Sam Saeed had an absolutely exhausting weekend finishing second in the State Individuals Tennis Championship. Sam won two matches on Friday in the heat and humidity. His day on Saturday began at 7:30 am, but after a long rain delay, he won his first match after 6:00 pm. His second match that day had to be suspended because the USTA tennis center closes at 11:00 pm. He finished the match early Sunday morning, advancing to the finals. Despite his best effort, he fell to an incredibly talented opponent. Congratulations to Sam and Coaches Jen Roane and Mike Kumaresan.

Speaking of Coach Jen Roane – she has been nominated for the NFHS Coach of the Year Award for her work with Girls Tennis. She has previously won this award for coaching Boys Tennis. Congratulations to Jen on a well-deserved honor!
Girls Golf will wrap up their state tournament today so we await final results. Emma Lee is at the top of the leaderboard and the team was in second place late Sunday.
Our
Track and Field team had a great weekend and several runners have qualified for the state tournament next weekend in Middletown. Adrianna Pettinelli (1500m), Jake Saxon (110 hurdles), and Eva Gibney (pentathlon) all advance. Both the boys (Rishi Shadaksharappa, Jack Sherman, Charlie Rich, and Nate Lynch) and girls (Rachel Rakower, Zoe Dichter, Leia Patel, and Adrianna Pettinelli) 4 x 800 relay teams also advance.
On May 16, the
Crew team competed at the Stotesbury Cup, the world's largest high school regatta, in Philadelphia. The Girls Junior 4, consisting of Claudia Gelblum, Soula Scarpelli, Dafna Arenstein, Bridget Hughes, and Emily Schulmann finished 13th out of 46 entries with a time of 05:37.41, qualifying for the semifinals. Unfortunately, due to storms and unsafe conditions on the river, the semifinals and finals were cancelled with medals awarded on trial times. Those rowers, along with Paloma Garcia and Brooke Goldstein, have qualified to compete in the Youth National Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida on June 12-15. We wish them and all the rowers in our SHS community competing at this event the best!
Boys Lacrosse completed their season with a tough loss to Mamaroneck at the Section One Championships last Wednesday. They had a lot to be proud of this season!
Lastly, a note from our custodial staff. Please be sure to have all athletes retrieve items from the locker rooms prior to June 26. Anything left after that date will be donated or discarded.
Thanks,
Cindy Parrott
