Important: From SPD & SPS
A video circulated in the region last weekend of students jumping down and crossing the MNR train tracks at the Scarsdale Train Station. Please take a moment to read this joint letter from the Scarsdale Police and Scarsdale Public Schools, and take a moment to discuss the risks this type of behavior carries. Beyond the risk associated with trains and the electrified rail, the distribution of video depicting this behavior is also a concern. Thank you for your partnership in helping to keep our students safe.
School Meals Update
Since school opened, we have received a number of inquiries about our decision not to participate in the Universal Free Meals program this year. First, the program requires school districts to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which is something we have not done in the past. Participation in the NSLP and NY's free meals component will require multiple changes to our food service program and our Food Service Management contract with Chartwells. Additionally, the uncertainty of federal funding for food service programs and the potential impact those changes may have on the NYS program warrant caution. Therefore, this fall, in partnership with our Food Service Committee and management consultant, the District Administration will evaluate the options available, determine changes required to participate, and make a recommendation to the Board of Education in the spring for the 2026-2027 school year.
Capital Projects Update
After 9 meetings between March and September, the Capital Projects Steering Committee, a multistakeholder group of roughly 40 members, will be recommending an initial scope of work for consideration by the Board of Education at the Monday, September 15, Board of Education meeting. The scope of work includes a proposed $95.6 million in infrastructure, air conditioning, fields, and building construction/renovation projects. Monday's presentation and discussion will mark the start of a months-long process of engagement around the recommendations, and refinement of a work scope for a potential bond referendum in 2026.  More info can be found on the Board's governance website, BoardDocs.
Insight: BTS Edition
Insight is the only Scarsdale Public Schools print publication mailed to every household in our community. This year's Back to School/Graduation edition is off to the printer and will be mailed a bit later this month. However, readers of the Friday Five can get a sneak preview of the 2025 Insight: Back to School edition by clicking here!
Tonight: Friday Night Lights!
The first home football game of the season is tonight at 7 PM on Butler Field! Please come out and support your Raiders, and join our students in a great community tradition. The theme of tonight's game is Country Western, and our parent sports booster club, Maroon & White, will be on hand to sell Raider gear.  Important Reminder: Please remember our campuses are substance-free environments. If you plan on tailgating, please have fun and support our student athletes with good cheer, but without alcohol
