Twice As Nice

The Scarsdale High School Speech and Debate Team recently competed at the Tournament of Champions in Lexington, Kentucky, where they achieved an outstanding performance and brought home several impressive accolades.

The tournament is widely-regarded as one of the most competitive tournaments in the nation: students must repeatedly perform well at select tournaments just to qualify to attend.

Scarsdale High School was well-represented, with six students qualifying to compete: Andrew Liu (‘25), Eric Liu (‘25), Janghee Lee (‘24), Rick Yang (‘24), David Huang (‘24) and Carly Gelles (‘23).

Senior Carly Gelles earned her SECOND National Championship in Oral Interpretation of Literature. She was the NCFL National Champion in Oral Interpretation of Literature in 2021. Gelles also placed second in Program Oral Interpretation, missing the three-peat national championship by just a single point.

Two of the debate entries qualified for elimination rounds, with David Huang reaching Double Octafinals in Lincoln Douglas Debate and Andrew and Eric Liu reaching Octafinals in the Public Forum Silver Division.

Please join us in congratulating the team on their excellent performance and superb sportsmanship at one of the most demanding tournaments in the country.
