    Mystery Reader Hall of Fame 19-20

     

    October

    Our first msytery reader was Alissa Dumsch Bernhardt. She came dressed as a box of crayons! She read us a book called The Day The Crayons Came Home By Drew Daywalt. Students particiated in three activities. Students drew a design with crayon on sandpaper. The design will be ironed on a t-shirt. Students made a watercolor photo with white crayon and watercolor paints. Students also observed a work of art created by melting crayons on a canvas.

     

  • Our next mystery reader was Nikki Hahn. She read us a book called Room On A Broom by Julia Donaldson.  Students made Halloween rings, a ghost and witch. 

  • November

     

    Our first mystery reader was Mrs. D'Carla Antunes. She read us The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Students did a word search and created a bookmark that contained a special poem.  Ask you child about some of the lessons in the story. 

  • Our next mystery reader was Mr. Mike Steinberg. He read us a book called One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote by Bonnie Worth. Students had to vote on which candy they liked most, Skittles or Gummy Bears. Students were broken up into small groups based on the candy they liked they most. Each group created a political campaign poster with reasons why they choice of candy was the best. As a class, we all voted on which candy we liked they most. It was a tie for both candies. 

  • Our last mystery reader this month was Mr. Evan Snyder. He read us various poems from Shel Silverstein's Where The Sidewalk Ends.  He loved reading these poems growing up. As a class, we read a poem called Smart. We did a coin rubbing activity that went along with the poem. 

  • December

    Our first December mystery reader was Rebecca Appleman. She read us a book called Ish by Peter Reynolds. Students made watercolor paintings as an activity. 

  • Our next mystery reader was Nina Liu. She read us a book called Airplaines by Cathy Tatge. Students learned about different types of airplanes. Students made airplanes as a project. 

  • January

     

    Our first mystery reader this month was Meredith Ullman. She read us a book called 2030: A Day In The Life of Tomorrow's Kids by Amy Zuckerman and James Daly. Students had a fun time imagining what life would be like in the future. Students made bear clocks as the art project. 

  • Our next mystery reader was Mia's grandma. Her name is Tirza Dalkoff. She is a retired teacher and principal. She read us a book called A Friend For Henry by Jenn Bailey. Students made cut out paper chain linked people and decorated them to represent their own friends. 

  • February

    Our first mystery reader this month was Sandy Newman. She read us a book called Goldilocks And The Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems.  Students created their titles for their own version of the story and wrote what the first sentence of their book would be. 

  • March

    Our first mystery reader was Yingjie Zhou, mom of Connor. She read us a book called Pandas by Anne Schreiber/National Geographic Kids. We learned facts about Pandas. We made panda masks as our activity.

  • March-June Zoom Mystery Readers

     

    We continued our fun mystery reader program even during the pandemic with ZOOM mystery reader. A good time was had by all.
