PT Council, known formally as the Scarsdale Council of Parent-Teacher Associations, is the umbrella organization for the Scarsdale PTA units which exist at each of the seven Scarsdale Public Schools. It is a separate entity with its own elected officers and committees. The membership is drawn from teachers, parents, and administrators from each school. The President from each individual PTA serves as a member of the Executive Committee and acts as a liaison between the PT Council and the respective PTA unit.
PT Council believes that one of the key responsibilities of the PTAs is to promote awareness of local, state, and national education-related issues. Please visit the PT Council Advocacy and Legislative Issues webpage for materials received from the New York State and Westchester East Putnam Regional PTAs as well as links to District, Board of Education, and "education watchdog" websites.
PT Council sponsors a variety of speakers, panels and programs which enrich the student and parent community. During the school year, the PT Council Executive Committee meets monthly with the Scarsdale Schools Superintendent as well as sends representatives to Scarsdale Board of Education meetings and budget discussions.
Sports Swap: The Sports Swap is a giant tag sale with great prices on sporting goods, computer equipment, musical instruments and sports & dress clothing. People in the community donate their gently used items and all the proceeds from the sales go to support PT Council programs, events, speakers and special events. This year's sports swap will be held on March 24, 2018.
Young Writers' Workshop (YWW): From sports writers, authors, magazine writers, producers to bloggers and illustrators, numerous top creative professionals share their crafts with third through fifth grade Scarsdale children. In each workshop, students will experience 'real life' writing activities in small group settings, as well as gain a better understanding of a day in the life of a writer. A sample of a past Young Writers' Workshop Catalog is available for your review. This year's YWW will be held on November 18, 2017.
STEAM Day:What do Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) have in common? More than you'd ever imagine--and Scarsdale's kids will have a chance to learn all about it on STEAM Day.
