    The District's Sustainability Initiative is part of a worldwide effort to save the environment for future generations. It has three main objectives: student and adult education; environmentally aware behavior; and environmentally sound institutional practices.
     
    As part of the Initiative, in 2006, the Board of Education adopted the goal of reducing the District's carbon footprint to 10% below the 1990 level by the year 2020.
     
     
     
    Other sustainability efforts include promoting student and adult education through staff and faculty information and professional development activities, classroom instruction, and student activities beyond the classroom.
