A king announced that a race would decide which of his two sons would inherit all his wealth.

The sons were to ride their horses to a certain distant city.

The son whose horse reached the city SECOND would be given all the king's wealth.

The two sons set out on the journey. After severals days of pointless wandering, they met a wise man.

After listening to the wise man's advice, the two sons rode the horses as quickly as possible to the designated city.

The question: What did the wise man say to them?

A Puzzler (from NPR’s Car Talk) There's this unusual little diner, where you can get a free ice cream sundae if you know the secret code. The secret code works like this: You sit down at the table. The waiter tells you a number. And you tell him another number. If it's right, you get a free sundae.

For example, a customer sits down and the waiter says, "Six." The customer says, "Three," and he gets his free ice cream. The second fellow sits, and the waiter says, "Twelve." The customer says, "Six," and he gets his free sundae!

A third customer sits, and the waiter says, "Fourteen." The customer says, "Eight." He gets a free sundae.

You're sitting there. The waiter turns to you and says, "Twenty-two."

What do you say?
