• Dear 6th Grade Mathematicians,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am really excited to be your PC Math 6 Teacher and Push-In Social Studes Teacher.

First, let me introduce myself briefly! I’ve been teaching for three years, and this is my first year at Scarsdale Middle School. Prior to joining the Scarsdale Middle School community, I was a special education teacher at Harlem Village Academies in East Harlem, New York.

When I’m not in school, I love to travel and explore different places with my husband and almost two-year-old daughter, Olivia.

This year, in math class will be exploring many exciting topics such as rational numbers, ratios, algebraic expressions, graphing, area and volume through a variety of teaching modalities including hands-on activities and projects. This year you will be challenged, but we will have fun learning along the way!

In Social Studies, I look forward to working with the Butler and Cooper teachers to explore units on geography, the ancient world and early humans.

In order to make sure that each student is set up for success this year, it is important that we are prepared for class every day and part of being prepared is having the right materials.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns throughout the school year.

I look forward to meeting you and to a great year!

    All the Best,

    Alexia Rantala
