Who we are:
The Scarsdale Community Youth Service Project is a partnership of Scarsdale Village, Scarsdale Schools and Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service. The Youth Service Project places a team of Youth Outreach Workers in both Scarsdale Middle School and Scarsdale High School for daily emotional support, counseling, and crisis intervention. The Youth Outreach Workers are all licensed clinical social workers. The Youth Service Project offers programming that stresses the importance of connection between teens and their families, schools, and community.
The Youth Service Project team on the high school level consists of Lauren Pomerantz, LCSW and Allison Hartman, LCSW. Both Lauren and Allison provide individual on-site counseling and groups for students in a confidential environment for teenagers to discuss issues such as drug/alcohol use, peer pressure, coping skills, self image, and relationship issues. Youth Outreach Workers are also available after-school or by appointment at the offices of Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service in the Harwood Building.
Programs for SHS students:
Peer Leadership is a program that develops growth and leadership for teens by mentoring younger students. Peer Leaders help lead the 9th grade orientation, and work with small groups of 9th graders about positive decision making and social challenges. Peer Leadership has limited enrollment for 11th and 12th graders and meets weekly at the Girl Scout House on Tuesday evenings.
Women in Leadership (WIL) is a group available for all young women in 9th-12th grade. The program helps participants develop leadership skills through shared cultural, social, and verbal expressions. WIL meets after-school weekly at Scarsdale High School and is facilitated by Allison Hartman. The group has open enrollment throughout the year.
