Welcome to my webpage! I am the reading teacher at Quaker Ridge School. My job is to provide supplemental reading support in addition to the reading instruction students receive in the classroom. My reading program is intended to provide those students who need it, with the opportunity to progress at an accelerated rate. Our small groups meet everyday. We read books, study words, learn phonic rules and reading strategies, write, and play lots of games, too!
About Our Program
Mrs. Grandefeld uses Fountas and Pinnell's Leveled Literacy Intervention, or LLI. LLI is a research based program that is designed for small group, specialized instruction. Reading groups are made up of three students and one reading teacher. The small group ratios give Mrs. Grandefeld the opportunity to tailor lessons to each readers' specific needs.

Emphasis on comprehension strategies
Attention to fiction and nonfiction text features
Specific work on sounds, letters, and words in activities designed to help children notice the details of written language and how language works
