During adverse weather conditions it is the District’s practice to make every effort within safety requirements to provide school bus transportation to private schools, parochial schools, and schools for special needs that are open only when the Scarsdale Public Schools are open. If, however, the Scarsdale Public Schools close, bus transportation will not be provided. If the Scarsdale Public Schools are opening on a delayed basis, transportation to schools located outside the District will commence on the same delayed basis.

The District uses a mass-communications system (Blackboard) to notify guardians about school closures or delays due to inclement weather. Phone calls and emails go to the phone numbers and email addresses that the District has on record for a student's guardian(s). We recommend that you verify the guardian contact information for your children. You can review this information in the Campus Parent Portal, under the More link.

In addition, we suggest you call the district’s snow line at 721-2400, visit the District's website, or listen to one of the following media to learn if the Scarsdale Public Schools are closed or opening on a delayed basis due to adverse weather conditions:

    • Scarsdale Public Schools (SPS) TV Channel 77 (Optimum/Altice) or TV Channel 27 (Verizon FiOS)
    • WABC (Closings Only)
    • NBC News 4
    • WCBS-TV, WCBS Newradio 880 AM, 1010 WINS (Closings Only)
    • WHUD 100.7 FM
    • Channel 12 News
    • FiOS1 News

There are times when weather conditions in out-of-district locations are too dangerous for travel while in-district schools remain open. Your child's school will contact you in such situations.

When transportation is provided on days of extreme cold, ice, heavy rain and/or snow, school bus delays should be expected. Drivers are repeatedly instructed to drive at a speed commensurate with the prevailing road and/or weather conditions. We often experience an increased number of mechanical problems when the weather is cold and/or wet.
