During music class, children explore elements of rhythm, melody, tone color, form and expression through singing, movement, playing instruments and listening to music of different cultures and styles.  Poems, stories, art and movement are a part of the music program and help students expand their imaginations and deepen their musical understanding.  Students are given opportunities to improvise and compose music in traditional, as well as non-traditional ways, and with music technology. They are also introduced to note reading.  Ideas for musical activities are often student-generated.  All grade level school arts and singing assemblies foster a sense of community and multicultural appreciation. The participation of High School student interns adds a wonderful learning dimension and experience to the Quaker Ridge Music program.  Mr. Andrew Brown is the music helping teacher at Quaker Ridge.  We collaborate in creating a multi-faceted, child-centered curriculum.
