Reading and writing are a part of our everyday lives. In an effort to be more involved in my students' reading lives I am starting a library for music related books. Here are some I've come across. All reviews or book selections are welcome, so please contact me if you have a question or opinion!
"Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin" by Lloyd Moss
"Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin" is an excellent book for the early grades. It teaches children about the different instruments of the orchestra and helps relate to the four families of the orchestra. In addition, it helps children learn the correct terms that should be used for the number of musicians playing in small ensembles. For example, three musicians playing is a trio and four is a quartet. The text rhymes and is enhanced by whimsical illustrations. Highly recommended!

"Houndsley and Catina and the Quiet Time" by James Howe
An endearing story that hits close to home for us at QRS! (Our Winter Concert was moved twice this year due to snow!) Houndsley and Catina are two musicians that get snowed in, but finally make it to their concert. An adorable story for developing young musicians.
