CHILD Meeting with District Administrators and Staff -- I've been meaning to ask . . .
Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.
Our November meeting gives parents an informal setting to raise the questions that are on their mind. Join us at a volunteer's home for small-group discussions with District representatives on specific topics or areas where you may have concerns. Learning Resource Center educators will be on hand to talk you through the difficulties your child is having in math and/or reading. Psychologists will be available to discuss anxiety, ADD, social skills and more. Speech and OT professionals will be available as well. There will not be a formal presentation; District staff will be available to answer parents' questions directly, in small groups.
Film Screening and Panel Discussion: "Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety"
Tuesday, January 9, 2018, 7:30 p.m. at Scarsdale Middle School Auditorium
(snow date: Wednesday, January 10, 2018)
Produced by the same company that brought us "Screenagers" last year, "Angst" tells the stories of real kids who discuss their anxieties and the impact anxiety has on their lives and relationships. The film includes a special interview with Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps and provides resources, tools, and explanations from mental health experts about the causes, sociological effects, and ways to address anxiety.
Following the 56-minute film screening, SMS Principal Meghan Troy will lead a moderated and informative discussion with panelists Eric Rauschenbach, Director of Special Education and Student Services, and Sandra Pimentel, PhD, Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychology at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Bring your questions and comments for an open dialogue. All in the community are welcome.
