BUTLER 8 MATH GUIDELINES
Mr. Overbey: 2019 – 2020
• A Math notebook/binder divided into 2 sections (Notes & Homework)
There may be notebook quizzes and or notebook checks.
• A Math folder with pockets
• Level I -- A Scientific Calculator (non-graphing)
Levels II & III -- TI-83 or 84 plus graphing calculator (** Don't buy until we discuss in class! **)
• A ruler or straight edge
• Check Schoology daily for homework assignments.
• Confidence – you will be successful. ☺
Your OVERALL grade is composed of 85% for Tests/Quizzes & 15% for Homework.
In each of those categories, your grade will be calculated on a total points basis:
So for the Tests/Quizzes part -- take 85% of the quotient of YOUR total points and the total possible points,
and for the Homework part -- take 15% of the quotient of YOUR total points and the total possible points,
then add those two quotients together.
Homework is a large part of your grade, so I expect everyone to do each assignment. If you do not understand the assignment, you must try to complete it in order to receive full credit.
Your homework grade is 15% of your overall grade. Each assignment is worth 2 points. If the homework is late, you are expected to make it up. Late homework assignments can be made up until 1 week after the Unit Test for that assignment and will receive 1 point. If a late assignment is not made up by 1 week after that Unit Test, it will receive a grade of 0.
Keep this grade at 100%, and you will be successful. Each quarter you get one “freebie”. (Freebie means you can be LATE once without a deduction.) Each assignment must be “worthy” of earning the 2 points.
Heading on Work:
Name HW # Section
If you miss a test, you need to come see me at the beginning of the next class to set up a time and date to make it up. You must be responsible for yourself!
If you miss a quiz, you need to come see me at the beginning of the next class to set up a time and date to make it up. You must be responsible for yourself!
Projects will be handed in on time. There are exceptions to every rule, so if you have extreme circumstances, come talk to me about it and we will work something out.
Remember – Hard work, determination, and a positive attitude will help US be successful.
(Also remember that learning Math means you use it!)
