• Welcome to Raider Softball

This spring, Scarsdale High School will field two Softball teams:
    • Varsity is for the top softball players, who demonstrate the strongest skills and abilities, regardless of grade-level.
    • JV is for freshmen and sophomores to develop their skills and capabilities to give them the best chance to move up to the Varsity level.

  • Tryouts
Tryouts begin on March 13, 2023 and players must have their completed gold card from the school nurse. Information on how to get a gold card can be found at
Tryouts will take place at Scarsdale High School, either on the field or in the High School Gyms and at Supply Field.
Times will be determined by field availability and weather conditions.

First Round of placements will be decided and communicated after the TBD tryout.
Each player needs to have a softball glove and pants.  Please bring a bat and a helmet if possible.
Players are expected to be present at all tryout sessions.  Missing sessions will be incorporated into the coach's evaluation of players for the Varsity team.
Tryouts consist of assessments of individual softball skills.  Players will be evaluated based upon a rubric encompassing the following: Speed, footwork, throwing strength, throwing accuracy, fielding, hitting for power, hitting for contact and Softball IQ.
The coaching staff also tests the athletes for general athleticism.
Players are also evaluated on their cooperation with other players and their ability to take direction from the coaching staff.

  • Regular Season

Softball is a commitment of about 2.5 hours per day, 6 days a week and occasional Saturday games and competitions.  It is our expectation that athletes will be present for all team tryouts, scrimmages, practices, games and tournaments.

The regular season ends in late May for both teams.

Varsity is then eligible for post-season play.
