• To Parents of 2019-20 K-12 Scarsdale Student Musicians Who Wish to Participate in the NYSSMA Festival

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year! On behalf of the Scarsdale District Music & Performing Arts Department, I want to wish you a new year filled with beautiful, harmonious music that brings you joy! We are well into concert season, and I hope you have or have had the opportunity to attend and enjoy one of our many wonderful performances occurring in the District.

As you may be aware, the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Festival is fast approaching. This is a voluntary festival. This year, we are pleased to announce that all registrations and payments will be completed online through MySchoolBucks.com. We are very excited to be able to offer this online process to you as it will provide a simpler, more streamlined application experience.  Please note that, if you are registering more than one child, you must complete separate registrations for each child.

If you are already using MySchoolBucks to pay for school meals or other items in the district, your account is already set-up and ready to go! Just log into www.MySchoolBucks.com or download the MySchoolBucks Mobile App and click the PERFORMING ARTS  icon.

If you have not previously used MySchoolBucks, please go to www.MySchoolBucks.com or download the MySchoolBucks Mobile App and Sign Up for your free account.

Note : In order to use the online prepayment service, a small convenience fee for each transaction will be assessed to cover bank fees. Please note that the Scarsdale School District is required to pass this charge on to account users; it will not profit from the use of this site. Refunds will incur an additional processing fee.

There are four NYSSMA Festivals. Please see the list below to discern which is applicable to your child. Once you’ve read below, login to MySchoolBucks (and choose PERFORMING ARTS), and choose that festival from the drop-down menu. MySchoolBucks will walk you through the registration and payment.

As always, NYSSMA is NOT required. It is an opportunity for your child to perform for a judge and receive a grade and comments about his/her technique as a musician. A solo from a leveled solo list is required as well ‚Äčas memorized scales and sight reading. Most students who attend NYSSMA do take private lessons, however that is not a requirement. A commitment to detailed practicing is necessary to have a successful NYSSMA experience, as you might expect.

Please keep the following in mind when you are registering your child to participate in a NYSSMA Festival:

    • 2 ORIGINAL copies (not photocopies) of the solo must be used for NYSSMA. These can be purchased through any local music store or online. Please be sure to check with your teacher for the specific arranger, composer, title, book, etc. If the solo comes with an accompaniment (usually piano) that also has the melody, this can be given to the adjudicator as the second original copy.
    • PLEASE NOTE that your child’s private lesson teacher cannot register him/her for NYSSMA. All students must register for NYSSMA through his/her SMS music teacher through the online MySchoolBucks system.

    PLEASE NOTE

    • EACH FESTIVAL HAS A DEFINITE DEADLINE AFTER WHICH THE WINDOW WILL CLOSE.  THIS DEADLINE CANNOT BE EXTENDED.
    • THEREFORE, PLEASE REGISTER EARLY TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD’S PLACE AT THE NYSSMA FESTIVAL ADJUDICATIONS.
