• Dear Edgewood, Fox Meadow, Greenacres, and Heathcote Parents:

    The purpose of this letter is to update you on our plans regarding the implementation of District-provided food service in your building this year.

    As you may be aware, the District has a history of providing food service at the Middle School, High School, and Quaker Ridge Elementary School due to the presence of kitchens in those buildings. This coming year, the District will also be providing food service at the remaining elementary school buildings. All menu items will be prepared in District kitchens and then transported to your student’s building on a daily basis.

    Although we had originally planned on preparing and delivering individually packaged meals from the High School, the District’s new executive chef has recommended that meals be prepared and shipped to schools in batches, for the purpose of serving family style. Service in this way will allow meals to maintain their freshness, and be consistent with the District’s sustainability initiatives.

    The District will be phasing in the commencement of this new lunch program as follows:

    • Greenacres and Fox Meadow
      • Monday, September 17th
    • Edgewood and Heathcote
      • Monday, September 24th

    In order to help us provide high quality, nutritious, and appealing student meals, the District has recently hired an Executive Chef through its contracted vendor, Chartwells. Chef John “Mike” Wazny is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has wide experience in the field, including managing food services at several Fortune 500 companies, among them McGraw-Hill, Credit Suisse, and KPMG. Recently he has been overseeing cuisine for the executive lounges at British Airways.

    Chef Mike is looking forward to sharing his experience and culinary knowledge with the Scarsdale school community. He plans to focus on wellness, and wants to look beyond typical school meals to create a dining experience for students that is both healthful and enticing. Chef Mike will oversee all meal preparations and be responsible for menu planning at all of our buildings.  

    Lunch options will include not only the Hot Entree of the day, but also “On the Go” meals such as Bistro Boxes, salads, and a selection of sandwiches. All the “On the Go” meals are paired with organic yogurt and a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables to provide a complete, nutritious, and satisfying alternative to the Hot Entree. Fresh crudites will also always be available. Because we are strongly committed to high nutritional standards, traditional snack “extras” will not be available for purchase by students. The cost for either the Hot Entree or the “On the Go” is $5.50 per meal. You will be contacted directly by your building regarding milk orders. Please note that drinks will not be available for purchase. However, water fountains are available for students with refillable bottles.  

    Please note that all meals must be pre-ordered via the Nutrislice app, as cash transactions will not be available on site. The Nutrislice app allows users to not only view and order from up to six weeks of future menus, but also allows parents to identify student allergies. Once you have identified allergies, menu items containing these ingredients will be crossed off and should not be ordered.

    To assist in limiting food waste and assure that we are able to provide meals for all students who wish to participate, we ask that parents order as far in advance as possible (up to six weeks).  However, it is important to note that each of your child’s meals must be ordered at a minimum of 8 serving days in advance (holidays count as serving days while the weekends do not), and will be billed to your account, unless the meal is cancelled by 7 a.m. of the day of service.  

    Greenacres and Fox Meadow parents please note that orders for the first week of service may be placed from now through September 9th at 11:59 p.m. At which point the 8 day minimum mentioned above will be put into place.

    Please note that there is no requirement for an annual subscription of lunches.
