• Dear Quaker Ridge Parents:


    The Scarsdale Schools Lunch Program welcomes you to a new school year. We are very excited to inform you that we have implemented some important changes to the program for the upcoming year.

    In order to help us provide high quality, nutritious, and appealing student meals, the District has recently hired an Executive Chef through its contracted vendor; Chartwells. Chef Mike Wazny is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has wide experience in the field, including managing food services at several Fortune 500 companies, among them McGraw-Hill, Credit Suisse, and KPMG. Recently he has been overseeing cuisine for the executive lounges at British Airways.

    Chef Mike is looking forward to sharing his experience and culinary knowledge with the Scarsdale school community. He plans to focus on wellness, and wants to look beyond typical school meals to create a dining experience for students that is both healthful and enticing. Chef Mike will oversee all meal preparations and be responsible for menu planning at all of our buildings.  

    Lunch options will include not only the Hot Entree of the day, but also “On the Go” meals such as Bistro Boxes, salads, and a selection of sandwiches. All the “On the Go” meals are paired with organic yogurt and a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables to provide a complete, nutritious, and satisfying alternative to the Hot Entree. Because we are strongly committed to high nutritional standards, traditional snack “extras” will be no longer be available for purchase by students.

    To meet the added costs of additional professional staff and our enhanced healthy menu options, meal prices have been increased to $5.50 per meal for both Hot Entrees and the “On the Go” alternative meals.

    In addition, parents have the option of subscribing to the milk program. This differs from past practice, when milk was included in the purchase of the meal. This year, you may enroll your student in the milk program for an annual fee of $65. Consistent with our healthy initiatives, only 1% milk will be available. There will be no other drinks offered, but a water fountain is available for students who bring refillable bottles. To enroll your child in the milk program, please send or drop off checks made out to “Scarsdale School Lunch Fund” in the amount of $65, and note in the memo section that the check is for the milk program and your student’s name:

    Because of the delayed timing of this notification, milk will be made available to students purchasing lunch at no additional cost during the first week of school.

    Please note that all meals must be pre-ordered via the Nutrislice app which was implemented last May. You are also able to order via the Nutrislice web app accessed here. The Nutrislice app allows users to not only view and order from up to a month of future menus, but also allows parents to identify allergies. Once allergies are identified, menu items containing these ingredients will be unavailable to order. Also, to assist in limiting food waste and assuring that proper quantities are ordered, we ask that parents order as far in advance as possible.
