"History is not a burden of the memory but an illumination of the Soul."
Lovers of history and social studies students understand that the process and pursuit of understanding past historical events can be truly transformative. Social studies is not the aimless recitation of facts. Instead, our social studies curriculum aims to encourage critical thinking skills in our students. The ability to identity and describe bias, perspective, context and tone are important skills that will carry over to all other academic areas and will become guide posts for how students consume information in general.
Below is a link to my graphic organizer that details various aspects of historical thinking. It also includes sentence stems which will help to teach students how to better communicate their ideas/interpretations in academic language.
