• Heathcote Community Service

    Objective:
Raise awareness among students of the great needs of those less fortunate that exist in our local community and the world beyond. It is our hope that increased empathy will create a Heathcote community of “givers.”

    Plan:
We plan to work with a host of needy partners including, but not limited to, Children's Hope Chest, Bronx YMCA, and Pajama Program to name a few.

This year's programs will have Heathcote students participating in a variety of outreach efforts, many tied to major school events, school fair in May and all with the goal of getting students involved and excited about helping others.

Some of our Events this year will include:

    • Book Fair ––Collecting new and gently used books to be donated to the Bronx YMCA as part of Children’s Hope Chest “Hope for the Holiday” program.
    • Halloween Candy Drive ––Halloween candy donations distributed by Children’s Hope Chest, will be included in Thanksgiving boxes given to needy families.
    • Stuff a Bus Pajama Program ––Heathcote students will make a difference by donating over  400 pairs of new children’s pajamas to the Westchester chapter of Pajama Program. The pajama drive culminates on Heathcote Pajama Day when students and staff wear pajamas to school, and "stuff" a decorated bus with our donated pajamas. Donations will be distributed to local children in foster care, group homes and temporary housing, as well as to those living below the poverty level.
    • Spring Packaged and Canned Food Drive and more to come!
