3rd Grade ushers in a new phase in students’ musical education. Within each six-day cycle, students receive one day of general music and one day of instrumental music with either Mr. Orengo (strings) or Mr. Missett (band). In the general music classroom, we emphasize more traditional musical notation (such as note reading on the staff) while increasing a focus on composition and improvisation. We continue to play percussion instruments such as drums and xylophones. We also begin learning the ukulele, reading both standard notation and chord symbols with a variety of songs.
