My name is Ava Laera, and I am one of the Deans at Scarsdale High School.  This year begins my eighth year at SHS and my fourteenth year as a School Counselor.  I have the fortunate opportunity to work with students in the traditional high school and A-School.  My top priority is to get to know each and every child extremely well so that your child feels comfortable and supported as we navigate through the twists, turns, and excitements that high school may bring.  Over the course of your child's high school experience, I will work with your child on his/her academic, social, emotional, and post-secondary goals, dreams, and aspirations, and I welcome conversations with parents and guardians so that we may work together as a collaborative team.

For every grade level, my departmental colleagues and I conduct seminar workshops or lessons, depending on your child's grade.  Freshman Seminar starts in the fall and concludes before winter break.  Sophomore Seminar runs once a quarter throughout the year.  Junior Seminar begins in November and concludes before winter break. And Senior Workshop runs once a month starting in September as a way to help students navigate through the college application process. My department and I also conduct many day and evening programs throughout the year to provide helpful and relevant information to students and families.  Please be on the lookout for program events, dates, and invites that we send to your email.
