Writing Workshop works in tandem with Reading Workshop. As students read closely and think about an author's choices, they then use those noticings in their own writing. In our classroom I expect that students are putting their best effort in every writing assignment. I believe that writing is never "done", as there is always an opportunity to revise and implement new techniques. In the writing workshop model the teacher acts as a mentor author, modeling writing techniques and conferring with students as they move through the writing process. Direct writing instruction takes place in the form of a mini-lesson at the beginning of each workshop and is followed by a continuously growing amount of active writing time.
