• The goal of the Physical Education program at Heathcote is to provide all students with the opportunity to develop cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills within a safe and enjoyable environment.  The students participate in developmentally appropriate activities and lessons that are essential to the educational process and contribute to the overall growth and development of each child.

    The Kindergarten, First, and Second grade curriculum places an emphasis on learning basic motor skills as well as understanding healthy fitness concepts. Locomotor movement patterns that are introduced and practiced are: walking, running, jumping, skipping, galloping, side-shuffling, leaping, and hopping. Non-locomotor movement skills include but are not limited to: bending, stretching, and balancing  are taught in conjunction with spatial and body awareness, following/understanding directions and rules of gameplay. Manipulative skills that are also introduced and exercised include: rolling, throwing, catching, kicking, striking, and volleying.
