    The SHS Multicultural Committee is a group of international and non-international parents who organize different events to welcome new and multicultural families into our community,  to introduce you to each other, and to provide relevant information about the SHS experience. Staff from the SHS Counseling Department and other SHS representatives will be present to answer your questions about the school and its programs. We look forward to meeting you at our events.

    This event welcomes families to the new academic year and allows parents to meet SHS staff (including the Principal, Assistant Principals, Deans, faculty from the World Language Department, Youth Outreach Workers, PTA Officers and Chairs and other interested parents in an informal setting. The Q&A session addresses high school related issues: the Alternative School, SATs/ACTs, Civ Ed, honors classes, world language classes, and more. Set your Zoom background to your dream vacation spot, bring your Zoom mug, brew a cup of gourmet coffee or tea, and join us for a conversation with SHS staff to ask questions and learn specifics about various SHS programs.

    Multicultural Thanksgiving Lunch
    Scarsdale Congregational Church, 1 Heathcote Rd, (corner of Heathcote & Post Rd)
    This fun event, co-hosted with the SMS PTA Multicultural Committee, celebrates a great American tradition with a unique multicultural flavor. Join other families to share a delicious potluck of international and American culinary delicacies on this festive occasion! Pot luck sign up sheet will be distributed in the PTA weekly e-blast closer to the date of the event.

    International Parent College Information Coffee
    Deans from the Counseling Department address parent questions about the college admissions process. Although the event is oriented to parents of SHS juniors, all parents are welcome.
  • cooking graphics Divine Diversity Cookbook Cover NEW FOR 2020-21: Joint SHS and SMS PTA Multicultural Cookbook
    The SHS and SMS Multicultural Committees are joining hands to craft their first cookbook featuring recipes from the U.S. and around the world. Both Multicultural Committees hope that this professionally published cookbook will become your family's treasured keepsake item and will provide the community with a unique way to break bread together!

    The cookbook includes recipes from administrators, teachers, staff members, parents, and families in the Scarsdale community. Cookbooks make great mementos as well as gifts -- for a friend, a graduate, or anyone who needs some new ideas for their kitchen creations.

    Pre-orders will be open until Monday, March 22, 2021. Adjust quantities desired in your shopping cart. All proceeds will benefit the SHS PTA.

    Cookbooks will be delivered in the spring to in-person high school students during school hours or by drop off to virtual and out-of-district students. When placing your order, be sure to provide all the requested information to facilitate distribution of the cookbooks.

  • multicultural families SHS International Club
    We encourage children of new families to join the International Club at SHS. The club is made up students both American and international, who meet every other Friday at 2pm. They share different cultural activities, fundraise to donate to charities working overseas, and organize and host an all-day, all-school International Fair and Luncheon in the spring.
