  • Ways to give back …. Community Service at Greenacres 2019 - 2020

    The PTA is excited to partner with various organizations in Westchester to help provide for those in need and teach our children the value of giving back to their wider community.  Each grade will have opportunities to help sort and bag our various collections over the course of the year.


    This year, we plan the following COLLECTIONS:

    • YEAR LONG - Individual/Travel Sized Toiletries will be collected all year long for Midnight Run.  These can be purchased or saved from a family members personal or business travel.  They will be given to the homeless by our Scarsdale High School counterparts through their partnership with Midnight Run.

        • Shampoo
        • Toothbrushes
        • Toothpaste
        • Razors
      • APPRECIATED Toiletry Items
        • Conditioner
        • Combs
        • Lotion/Moisturiser
        • Lip Balm
        • Shaving Cream
        • Deodorant
        • Washcloths
        • Womens Items: pads and/or tampons



    • JANUARY - Non-Perishable Cold Weather Food will be collected in January for the Westchester Food Bank. Soups, oatmeal, etc.


    • FEBRUARY - Snacks will be collected in February for Lifting Up Westchester for their after-school mentoring and tutoring programs.


    We are also planning the following HANDS ON activities:

    • Toiletry Bagging: Each grade has a date to come together before school to help sort and bag the toiletries donated by the Greenacres community. The completed bags will be distributed by our Scarsdale High School counterparts on their monthly runs to help the homeless through Midnight Run.  
      • 5th Grade- Friday October 19th
      • 4th Grade- Friday December 7th
      • 3rd Grade- Friday February 8th
      • 2nd Grade- Friday March 8th
      • 1st Grade- Friday April 5th
      • Kindergarten- Friday May 3rd


    • Coat Collecting: The entire school is invited to come help collect the new and gently used coats that have been dropped off in locations around the building. They will be counted and bagged before being dropped off in Port Chester at The Sharing Shelf.
      • Wednesday, November 28th (during 1st day of Play Casting)


    • Snack Bagging: The entire school is invited to come decorate lunch bags and help fill them with snacks for the at-risk students who receive tutoring and mentoring support from Lifting Up Westchester.

    • Sandwich Making: The entire school is invited to come help make sandwiches to be given to Grace’s Kitchen in White Plains.
