Dominican RepublicIt is with great joy that Nelson DaSilva reports on our successful service trip to the "School of Environmental Science and Citizenship" in the Dominican Republic. The school graduates HS Environmental Science and Forestry technicians serving the DR, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba. Together, we toured historic sites, including the First Church in the New World. Most importantly, students worked on several Environmental Projects (planting and transporting pine trees to be delivered to other Caribbean nations, removing invasive plant species, preparing fields for planting, designing and sculpturing nature trails, and planting a sweet potatoes patch). Students got to practice their Spanish while socializing with other students, teachers, and local citizens. Additionally, our guys and gals worked with two other groups from Virginia and New Jersey.
