• handwriting Handwriting in First Grade

In first grade, we are now using Zaner-Bloser Handwriting.  First grade is a time of transition as we learn correct formation of lowercase letters and teach the children to use capital letters ONLY when beginning a sentence or writing a proper noun.  Proper letter formation is essential to developing automaticity in writing - so our focus can shift from how to write letters to writing that tells our story or shares information.

**Please use the PDF below to acquaint yourself with the order of the strokes in forming the letters so that you can reinforce them at home.  Also, please reinforce that all letters start at the top...we never write from bottom-up.
