Dr. Thomas Hagerman
Dr. Thomas Hagerman joined the Scarsdale Union Free Public Schools as Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2014. He also serves as a Co-Chair of the Scarsdale Center for Innovation, and the Board Chair of the Global Learning Alliance, an international consortium of innovative top schools and universities dedicated to understanding and sharing principles and practices of a world-class education across educational contexts.
Dr. Hagerman has served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in both K-8 and K-12, high-performing, school districts in communities with high community expectations and exemplary student achievement.
Before Scarsdale, he served as Superintendent of the nationally renowned Winnetka School District 36 on Chicago’s north shore. He also served as Superintendent of the River Forest School District 90 in Illinois and Riverdale School District in Oregon.
Prior to his work as a Superintendent, Dr. Hagerman served as a principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher of English, Social Studies, and Technology for 6th-12th graders. He also served as an adjunct professor at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Hagerman earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master’s degree in Education from Lewis and Clark College, and a doctoral degree in Policy, Organization, and Management from the University of Oregon.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Hagerman received numerous awards from the National School Public Relations Association, including Golden Achievement Award of Excellence and a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Oregon.
