• Weekly Spelling Schedule

     

    Monday:

    Preview- students are introduced to the week's core words (5) taken from the 4th Grade High Frequency Word List in class. 

    Tuesday and Wednesday:

    Word Study Concepts-Typical lessons focus on spelling patterns, contractions, silent letters, prefixes, suffixes, and more.

    Thursday:

    Dictation-sentences, which contain the core words, are read aloud and written down in journals. Students are then given the printed text in order to edit and correct their work.

    Friday:

    Spelling Quiz-Students are tested and core words from previous lists are often repeated in order to achieve mastery.

    Follow-up-quizzes are sent home for parent signatures and students record any misspelled words onto their "Words I Need To Learn" page.
