• SHS students may apply for physical education credit if they meet all of the criteria listed below.  Applications are emailed to students' school email address and primary parent/guardian's email address through Infinite Campus Messenger.  By clicking the link included in that email, you can complete and submit your application.  Approval is confirmed when a student's Infinite Campus schedule shows enrollment in both their team AND the Athletic Exemption course listed below their seven periods, in the row titled 'OTHER.' Please note that the Infinite Campus Messenger email only goes to those individuals who are rostered on a Scarsdale High School athletic team.

    Request to Earn Physical Education Credit for Athletic Participation

    2018-2019

     

     

    The requirements for receiving physical education credit for athletic participation are as follows:

    1. Students must meet all of the following requirements:
      • be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.
      • be in good academic standing in Physical Education (attendance, no outstanding failures, etc.).
      • be on the roster of a Scarsdale High School athletic team.
      • have achieved the Healthy Fitness Zone standards in all of the components of the most current FitnessGram fitness test for the requested quarter. FitnessGram is offered annually at the beginning of the second quarter in November.
      • read, sign, and submit a request. (a new request is required for each season).
      • remain in class until their Physical Education teacher confirms the approval of the request.

     

    1. SHS physical education credit for athletic participation may be requested in the following manner:
    • Fall Sports- May earn credit for the 1st quarter after team rosters and contracts have been submitted to the Athletic Office. Students must attend physical education class until request is approved and confirmed with physical education teacher.
    • Winter Sports- JV winter athletes may only earn 2nd quarter* credit; Varsity winter athletes may earn 2nd or 3rd quarter** credit.

    *2nd & 3rd quarter requests are granted only after the team roster and contracts have been submitted to the Athletic Office. Students must attend P.E. class until the request is approved and confirmed with physical education teacher.

    **Track and Ski team athletes may only earn 3rd quarter credit.  2nd quarter is not an option for these teams.

    • Spring Sports- May earn credit for the 4th quarter after team rosters and contracts have been submitted to the Athletic Office. Students must attend physical education class until request is approved and confirmed with physical education teacher.

     

    1. To earn physical education credit for athletic participation, athletes and parents must read, sign, and submit a request each season.

     

    1. Students who miss SEVEN or fewer scheduled practices or contests will remain eligible to receive physical education credit. Once a student misses EIGHT or more scheduled practices or contests, he/she will need to return to their assigned Physical Education class immediately.  All absences are counted, including school-related and non-school related absences.  This limit is only for credit granting purposes.  Coaches may have their own separate team rules regarding absences.

     

    1. Injured students are expected to attend practices and contests in order to remain eligible. If there are medical circumstances, an athlete can have a review upon submitting a doctor’s note.

     

    1. If an athlete’s status on the team changes before the end of the season, the athlete must promptly return to his/her Physical Education class. This P.E. unit may need to be repeated in a future quarter.

     

    1. Grading is based on participation in practices and contests as well as the demonstration of sportsmanship throughout the season. Athletes missing eight or more practices or contests will be ineligible to receive credit.

     

    Please note that no other type of athletic endeavor qualifies for physical education credit.
