American Studies

This is an interdisciplinary course in which students examine American history, literature, and culture. It is jointly taught by English teacher Jeanne Cooper and myself. The course meets eight periods per week, and both teachers are present throughout to help lead discussions of content. Students read numerous works of literature during the year. In addition, they complete readings from a textbook and supplemental historical materials. Students also complete research assignments in both English and history. Each student receives a single evaluation for his work in the class at the end of each marking period, which is written by the two teachers collaboratively. Students receive two credits for completing the course.
