Mrs. Gondar

This is my 23rd year as a classroom teacher. It truly brings me an enormous amount of joy to guide and encourage the growth of each group of children in the span of ten months.

I began my career at P.S. 71 in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx,  where I taught first and second grades for two incredible years. In 2002, I was fortunate enough to be hired in Scarsdale, where Quaker Ridge has since been my home. I have hopped between kindergarten and first grade and I am confident that this year is going to be full of discovery, excitement, and a solid foundation for a love of learning.

I have always felt a strong connection to the primary age group. I believe that growth, confidence, curiosity, independence, and success flourish in a structured yet nurturing environment.  This perspective has strengthened and evolved over the years and especially when I became a parent. My son, Michael,  is now 16 years old, entering 11th grade.  Experiencing these years with him has allowed me to take off my "teacher hat" and put on my "mommy hat".  I look back and remember his early years in school.  It has sensitized me even more to the emotional aspects both parents and students may be feeling at any particular moment. I see my son in all of my students' faces. What would I wish for my son to feel, discover, and experience in school?  What would I want to see, hear, and experience as a parent? I raise the bar each year for myself and my classroom with these thoughts in mind.

I am truly looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your families!
