PTA President's
Message
|
|
Dear Fox Meadow Families,
WELCOME BACK! Feels like Spring already. We have so many
exciting events planned over the next couple of months so please make
sure to mark your calendars!
First off- do some spring cleaning of your books and sports
equipment! PTC Sports Swap, run by Nancy Aresu, is on
March 10th, 10-2pm at Heathcote, then we will have our own Book Swap
on March 14th, 8:30am - 3:30pm- organized by Susie Quill, Lynda Ortner
and Eve Finger. In honor of the National Nutrition Month, Toby
Amidor and Kira Almeida have organized our 4th annual Fruit and
Vegetable Week starting March 19th! Delicious food and
discussion will be held at the Heritage Luncheon/PTA meeting (
Luncheon organized by the Multi Cultural Committee and Discussion
organized by the Compact Committee) on March 21st at 11:30am.
Don't forget to register for YWW, spear headed by Amy Song- the
last day for 3rd-5th graders to sign up is this Friday! In April,
we have the Fabulous Staff Appreciation Luncheon, organized by
Sarah Baigent, Natalia Duque, Lee Maude and Sidney Witter-Daire, to
look forward to. Many of you have already (or will) be receiving
your Fair T's for the Olympic themed Fair, organized by Dalya
Kahn, Jenn Love and Peggy Sanchez. Class parents are already
organizing class themed raffle baskets- which you will hear
about. Many months of planning goes into these events- so please
be generous with your time and ready to volunteer!
Enjoy the Springlike weather this week!
Sincerely,
Pam Rubin

Traffic and Safety
Message
|
|
Thank you to all who are complying
with the traffic and safety rules at drop-off and pick-up. Your
cooperation makes a big difference!
We'd love to see 100% compliance so
please remember the following:
- Use care in
the front circle. Children should only be let in and out on the
curb side.
- Do not drive
up the wrong side of the street on Chesterfield to avoid the car
line. This is very dangerous to pedestrians and causes confusion
at the Brewster intersection! Turn down a side street to approach
the school from another direction.
- Stay out of
the teacher's lot until after 3:30pm. Please share this info with
your caregivers!
- Adhere to
parking restrictions on side streets around the school.
- Do not
obstruct traffic in Lollipop Circle.
- Obey speed
limits and stop signs.

Nutrition & Food
Safety Committee's Tip of the Month: Fruit and Veggie Week (March
19-23, 2012)
|
|
|
In honor of National Nutrition
Month, Monday, March 19, 2012 kicks off Fox Meadow's fourth
annual "Fruit & Veggie Week". It also coincides
with Westchester County's "No Junk Food Week." We are
encouraging kids to bring a fruit, a veggie, and some whole grains to
school everyday that week. The list includes some familiar old favorites
as well as some new whole grain ideas for your child's snack or lunch
bag. Your child may not love all of them but together you can
find a few that they like.
Fruits
Veggies
Apples
Baby/Grape Tomatoes
Bananas
Carrot sticks/coins
Berries
Cauliflower/Broccoli florets
Clementines/Oranges
Celery sticks
Grapefruit
Cucumber slices
Grapes
Raw Snow or Sugar snap peas
Kiwi
slices Raw
String beans
Melon
cubes Raw
Zucchini/Yellow Squash slices
Pears
Sweet Pepper strips
Pineapple slices
Raisins/Dates/Other Dried fruits
Whole Grains
Homemade Popcorn
Whole Grain Cereal
Whole Grain Crackers
Whole Grain Muffin
Whole Wheat Mini Pita
Tortilla Chips
Fun fact: Kids are usually more accepting of veggies in their raw
or blanched form. Try to serve as a snack or just before dinner
when kids are at their hungriest.
Dips
A dip always makes fruits and veggies more fun. Some ideas are
vanilla yogurt, lite cream cheese/salad dressing, hummus, salsa, or any
nut butter. Follow the links below for some great dip
recipes. We hope your whole family enjoys them!
Homemade Tomato Salsa with Chips
Garlic & Herb Yogurt Dip
Traditional Hummus
Guacamole
Log It! The week before Fruit & Veggie Week, a log will be
sent home so your child can jot down the fruits and veggies they eat
each day. Participation is optional but encouraged.
Please send questions, comments, suggestions, or recipes to the
Nutrition and Food Safety Committee Co-Chairs:
Kira Almeida MS, RD/CDN, CDE (kiraalmeida@gmail.com)
