PTA President's
Message
|
|
Dear Fox Meadow Families,
With temperatures near 50 degrees,
it is hard to believe that Winter Break is almost upon us! But
before we take our holiday, we have the 2nd annual school play, Willy Wonka, Jr. to look forward to- this
Saturday. The committee Chairs (Erika Radin, Melissa Roth and
Stacey Greenberg), the production company and Principal Wilson are
doing everything that they can to
make sure that the kids and the stage are ready! Andee Rupe,
besides handling tickets will also be offering Wonka Bars with special GOLDEN TICKETS ($3) at the door!
Don't miss out!
There is so much going on at Fox Meadow to be excited about- both in
each classroom and outside of the class. The Scarsdale
Inquirer has captured just a few of the notable happenings!
We will continue to post the articles on the front bulletin board in
case you miss them. The latest article featured a huge picture of our
Hula Dancers (with Mr. Wilson looking very much like a Hawaiian
tourist) at the Multi-Cultural Fair as well as the Israel booth
"passport" stamping. The Chinese Face Changer was also
truly exceptional. Thank you to our Multicultural chairs, Aileen
Burke, Jing Lu, Hoosna Haque and Mei Morin for bringing this
experience to our kids. During the day, the Chinese New Year was
celebrated at Fox Meadow as well. The Kindergarten classes
were treated to a special Chinese New Year Lion Dance by Master Kwan
through a PTA grant while the 2nd grade created and performed
their own lion dance throughout the school!
Our 2nd of 3 author visits was extremely well received. Thank you
to Jan Schorr for bringing Meghan McCarthy to Fox Meadow and to
our parent coordinators, Judy Lee and Amy Rompala.
Thank you also to Anita Mann and Suzanne Vleck for
working with Mr. Missett and Mrs. Schultz all year and
with the Band/Orchestra concert celebration for our kids. Thank
you also to Alisa Kohn, Diane Baylor and Seema Jaggi for
another successful After School Program sign-up.
Thank you to Abilities Awareness Chairs ( Dayla Kahn, Julie Waxman,
Stutu Schoetz and Svati Shashank) for their coordination of
an invaluable program which brings an awareness -and hopefuly respect
and empathy -for those with physical and cognitive challenges.
A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who have been serving
lunches, helping with Abilities Awareness, Learning to Look, 5th Grade
Activities, Class Parents as well as behind the scenes with database
management (Renee Koevary), publicity and the monthly (Diane
Baylor), Safety (Kerry Walker and Susan Arovas), Website (Ora
Solomon and Ronit Weinberg), ESL and welcoming new Japanese
families (Motoko Umehara, Mieko Yamamoto, Hiroko Ota, Junko Abe,
Satomi Kawase). However, there is still a need for
volunteers. Please consider helping with the Fox Meadow Fair (meeting at 9:30am in the
OMPR- see below) and we are always in need of volunteers for school
lunches! Thanks for doing your part!

Safety
First: Children at Risk
|
|
|
Rain seems to
bring out the worst in drop-off/pick-up behavior. It is certainly
the minority which do not follow the safety rules, but those people
affect all of us. From driving too fast down Chesterfield where
kids are crossing, to pulling into the Teachers Lot, stopping in
Lollipop circle illegally or parking at the edge of the front circle-
this may save you a few minutes but it delays the rest of the parents
and puts kids at risk.
Please have all drivers review thePick-up and
Drop-off Procedures. There are pamphlets available by the
access doors as well as online.

Nutrition & Food
Safety Committee's Tip of the Month: Winter Warming Soups
|
|
|
Warm up those little bones with a
bowl of soup. Soups are a great way to get a ton of vitamins,
minerals, fiber, and even protein. Choose broth-base soups
instead of creamy ones to keep fat in check. For the broth, make
your own stock or use low sodium canned or boxed broth. Add
nutritional value and flavor by tossing in grains, pasta, beans,
lentils, veggies, or leftover chicken or meat. Leftover soup can
be sent into school as a snack or lunch in a thermos. Here are
some delicious soups you can make at home.
Triple French Onion Soup
Butternut Squash Soup
A-Plus Alphabet Soup
Last Minute Black Bean Soup
Speedy Soup
Classic Chicken Vegetable Soup
Tomato Basil Soup
Please send questions, comments,
suggestions, or recipes to the Nutrition and Food Safety Committee
