Ecosystems

  • Students begin the year with an extensive study of the ecosystems. Students will learn about life cycles, food webs, living and nonliving relationships and interactions, adaptations, and human impact on the environment. Students construct and observe terrariums and aquariums containing a variety of living organisms to an develop understanding of these concepts. Students will closely examine the pond ecosystem at Sheldrake Environmental Center.

We will investigate geological rock formation, uses of rocks and minerals in the world around us, as well as properties including hardness, color, luster and density. Students will visit Sterling Hill Mine during this unit.
