Second grade is a time of tremendous growth! Second graders have so many ideas, and we are working with them so they become better able to get those ideas onto paper in different genres including personal narrative, realistic fiction, fairy tale/folk tale, poetry, and research-based non-fiction.As for Craft, we will work, among other things, on word choice; beginning, middle and end; character, setting, problem and resolution; and flow.
Regarding Conventions, among other things, we will work on: spelling and phonetic patterns; capitals; punctuation; pre-paragraphing; and beginnings of noun-verb agreement.
How Parents Can Help:
Writing is a personal process. As the teacher is already involved not only as Cheerleader but as Instructor and Editor-in-Chief, the parent can afford to be purely Cheerleader when reviewing the child's stories! Enjoy!
