3rd Grade Instrumental Music Program

The overall goal of the third grade instrumental music program is to establish a solid foundation of technical ability, musical awareness and a love of individual and group music making to position the students for greater accomplishment in concert band in the fourth grade.

Third graders are introduced to instrumental music through group instruction on B-flat clarinet, baritone B.C. (baritone horn), violin and cello.  The students are taught basic control of the instrument and basic sound production.  They are also given instruction on note reading so that they are able to read and play simple pieces on their chosen instrument by the end of the year.  Throughout the year, students periodically engage in improvisation exercises.  These exercises let students express their own inner musical creativity through their chosen instrument.
