The eighth grade art curriculum is designed to further the visual arts knowledge acquired in sixth and seventh grade, and to prepare students for art offerings at the high school. The program emphasizes drawing from observation, self-portrait study and color theory. Students work to improve computer skills by creating an illustration using Photoshop. Reflection and self-assessment elicits important components in the closure of each lesson.

Students are exposed to a variety of artists and their work and are expected to research and critique works of art.
